Biography
Molly van der Weij

Molly van der Weij was born in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. She graduated in 1985 at the Academy of Visual Arts in Arnhem, the Netherlands. She has lived and worked in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Norway and since 2006 in the United Kingdom.

1985-98. Illustrator, Art Teacher and Author. The Netherlands, Belgium and Germany.

Areas of work: Fashion Design and Illustration. Higher education, teaching subjects: Presentation Techniques, Drawing (Grammar and Basics), Art and Information Technology, Computer Animation and Computer Graphics.

Amongst others: Publication “Mens en Mode getekend”, a book on professional aspects of fashion illustration.

1999-2006. Visualizer, Designer and Futurist. Special Consultant, Futures Studies Telemedicine, The Norwegian Centre for Telemedicine (NST), University Hospital of North Norway, Tromsø, Norway.

Areas of work: Telemedicine Future Lab, design and visual communication of possible applications of information and communication technologies for new telemedicine services. Leader of Telemedicine Futures Studies (NST): providing a platform for future thinking, conducting scenario development projects, conceptualization and visualization of possible futures, and storytelling. Social science research: using visual methods such as observation and visualization as qualitative research method.

Amonst others: Chair of TTeC2006, the international Tromsø Telemedicine and eHealth Conference, entitled “Beyond Tomorrow”, Norway 2006.

2007-present. VisualArt & Imaging; trading arm of Molly’s activities. Associate St. Andrews Management Institute, SAMI Consulting, London.

Areas of work: Interactive animated/moving images, Visualizations, Visual media presentations, Scenario development, Futures toolkit and workshop facilitation.

Amonst others: “Delivering Healthcare in the UK Beyond 2020”; three perspectives visualized and presented as interactive animated film. A communication tool for the NHS Institute for Innovation and Improvemnet. Co-production with SAMI Consulting.

Molly is member of several commitees and networks , among others the Bath Area Network of Artists (BANA), FiFF, a Norwegian network for visual artists working in research institutes, The World Future Society, the Art Steering Group (ASG) at the Royal United Hospital (RUH) in Bath, and the Shaping Tomorrow's Foresight Network.

In addition to commisions, consultancies and other picture productions Molly gives talks and presentations on issues related to using visual language in innovation and R&D processes, and exhibits regularly.
